THEY WILL TRY TO DELAY

The European Court Decree on “A1+” is of moral importance. The authorities and “responsible” media confirm for six years that depriving the TV Company of air was not a limitation of the Freedom of speech; it simply presented uninteresting projects in more than 10 contests for allocation a frequency. Certainly nobody believed in it even those who were insisting on it. It became clear on June 17 that the European Court also do not believe in it. Now the authorities should make a choice: either they keep on insisting saying that the European court is not a “political bureau” and its decrees have no meaning for us. Or to admit the mistake they made 6 years ago trying to correct it. If Robert Kocharyan were the president he would choose the radical and dangerous way in the relations with CE. Since the RA second president will hardly admit his guiltiness. As it is known the only mistake Robert Tocharian made during 10 years was his unsuccessful nomination of the ombudsman.

Today the situation is a little bit different. Serge Sargsyan is not directly responsible for closing “A1+” so he does not have any psychological problem to correct his mistake. The most perfect solution will be the announcement of a new contest. But knowing our authorities it is difficult to believe that they will follow that path. It is much more possible that they will try to delay the solution of the problem saying that the solution of the problem should be institutional and not personal. This means that the solution of the European parliament will be admitted and will be said that a package of legislative changes is being discussed aimed to reform the sphere. Those reforms may last several months and it will be found out how great the internal and external pressures on “A1+” are. If the pressure is not so great that case will be ignored by making several cosmetic changes in it. These authorities will reopen “A1+” only in case of a powerful pressure.

Political developments in Baku which I have been living in for a couple of years, have given a direction to my field of research and make me take a close interest in the geography on which I live. Caucasia, which affects Turkey’s strategic location and occasionally being Turkey’s soft spot in foreign policy, is kind of a composition of nations with its different elements reserved in it. The fact that I have continued my Caucasia research just on the Baku-Tbilisi and Ankara direction has made me realize my shortcomings in some points. Neglecting the most important ternary of the Caucasia with the information taken from an external source or any other person has prevented us from understanding most of the problems. It is not possible to work out Caucasia without taking Baku-Tbilisi-Yerevan ternary into consideration.

I have decided to take a Yerevan trip at the recommendation of the people ...
